A Word to the Wise

1-12-2018 – A Word to the Wise: Yet with the surfacing of more details, reinforced by scientific discovery, we find we are brought closer to the events of the day. Jesus died on April 3, 33 A.D. In fact there are only two possible days he could have died. Either April 3, 33 A. D. or 7 April 30 A.D. However, the events that occurred in 33 A.D. could not have occurred in 30 A.D. so we are left with April 3, 33 A.D. as the date of the crucifixion.

1-10-2018 – A Word to the Wise: Essentially 26/27 was a Sabbatical year. This means the people would have been free to go about the country and listen to the Lord because they could not work in the fields. However, it does not end there. Notice that the passage Jesus is quoting specifically states this was also the year prisoners were to be released. This occurred in the Year of Jubilee. Jesus says ‘Today this is being fulfilled.’ What day? The beginning of the year of Jubilee. It is the Day of Atonement 28 September 27 A.D. Jesus will be 30 years old in 7 days. It was the day all the slaves were to be set free, all land property was to be returned to its rightful owners, and all debt was to be forgiven. It is the year of Jubilee.

1-6-2018 – A Word to the Wise: Here are some important references. I Maccabees 6:49 refers to the defeat at Beth-Zur occurring in the Sabbatical year 163/162 B.C. Josephus says the murder of Simon the Hasmonean happened in the Sabbatical year 135/134 B.C. Further Josephus tells us that Herod’s conquest of Jerusalem occurred in the latter part of the Sabbatical year 37/36 B.C. The dating is consistently every seven years.

1-4-2018 – A Word to the Wise: So why did Jesus read this passage? The answer to that question is of profound importance.

12-30-2017 – A Word to the Wise: Now what is interesting about this passage is its roots in Leviticus 25. Here The Lord tells Moses the laws concerning sabbatical and jubilee years. In Luke Jesus reads a passage to the people which combines what the two laws represent.

12-28-2017 – A Word to the Wise: Here is the passage: And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up; and he went to the synagogue, as his custom was, on the Sabbath day. And he stood up to read;17 and there was given to him the book of the prophet Isaiah. He opened the book and found the place where it was written, 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” 20 And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 And he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” Luke 4:16-21
