8-26-2015 – A Word to the Wise: Why bring up family violence? I have been a police officer 33 years and a counselor 40. Family violence is a tragic, serious problem. It is estimated that 5-7 million children yearly see their mothers assaulted. As many as 1700 women a year are murdered by husbands and partners. 25% of women suicides and nearly 35% of female homicides are caused by husbands and boyfriends.
